My husband graduated from chiropractic school this year and wanted a spine cake.
The spine is made of cake-ball ingredients and the discs are made of marshmallow. Because we had company over and were moving a few days after graduation, this is as far as I got on the cake. No wording or border makes it kind of plain, but it was certainly a learning experience and the spine was a good challenge.
This was an ice cream cake covered in whipped cream with strawberries on top. I just had to add something cute so I made some simple chocolate owls to add to the sides.
The first cake that I made after having my baby (on the day I delivered, I baked my husband's birthday cake and stacked it but didn't frost the outside until we got back from the hospital so that one doesn't count. I don't think we took any pictures of it either because all of our pictures at that time were of the baby.) I wanted to make this cake so much I basically didn't do anything for an entire day except feed the baby and work on this cake. It was fun to make and a challenge as it was my first sculpted cake.
